1. About Us
FuneralShare is a federally registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization created to ease the financial and logistical burden of funerals for Muslim families in the United States. Our policies are built around compassion, transparency, and compliance with Islamic values.
We are a volunteered run organization that works with Ulama, locally trusted individuals and professionals across the United States to develop at system that is 100% transparent and is available to its members at all times.
2. Membership
Eligibility:
- Open to all Muslims aged 18+ residing in the U.S.
How to Join:
- Apply at org
- Submit Pre-Authorized Debit (EFT) Form
- Membership activates 30 days after successful registration
Fees:
- One-time registration fee: $50 per person (non-refundable)
Banking Responsibilities:
- Keep EFT info current
- Members are responsible for any failed payment fees (NSF)
3. Funeral Cost Sharing
Coverage Limit:
- Up to $8,000 per funeral for eligible expenses
How It Works:
- No monthly dues
- Each funeral cost is divided among active members
- Costs vary by state (as the funeral costs may be different in different cities)
Eligible Expenses:
- Funeral Home Services
- Cemetery plot
- Grave opening and closing
Claim Process:
- Submit within 90 days
- Required: Death certificate, funeral home invoice, cemetery invoice, travel proof
4. Funeral Coordination
Available in areas with local volunteers and mosque partners.
Note:
- Islamic practices followed
- No embalming or overseas shipping
- Families handle legal documentation
Volunteer Conduct:
- Follow mosque rules
- Maintain hygiene and confidentiality
Claim Process:
- Submit within 90 days
- Required: Death certificate, funeral home invoice, cemetery invoice, travel proof
5. Overseas Funeral Reimbursement
What’s Covered:
- Pretty much everything is covered as it is in the USA.
- Not responsible for the flight expenses if the funeral is being transported to another destination from the place of death.
- All expenses would be verified by the FuneralShare management team.
Upper Limit:
Coverage up-to $8,000
Not Covered:
- Cemetery or local transport abroad
- Ceremonies outside the U.S.
Required Docs:
- Death certificate
- Airline/cargo receipts
- Funeral invoice
- Proof of relationship (if needed)
6. Annual Operating Expenses
- Published annually on the FuneralShare website
- All members contribute equally
- Example: $10,000 in costs for 5,000 members = $2 each (Annually)
7. Cancellation & Reinstatement
Cancellation Grounds:
- Member request
- Incomplete EFT form (after 90 days)
- Failed/declined payments with no update
- Policy violations
To Rejoin:
- Reapply and pay $50 registration fee
- 30-day waiting period applies
8. Preferred Providers & Volunteer Standards
- Preference for Muslim funeral service providers
- Volunteers must maintain:
- Confidentiality
- Cleanliness
- Respectful conduct
- Confidentiality
9. Dispute Resolution
Covers:
- Claim decisions
- Billing issues
- Volunteer conduct
Process:
- File written complaint to support@funeralshare.org within 30 days
- Receive a response in 14 business days
- Appeal to the Board of Directors (final decision within 30 days)
- Optional mediation by faith-based mediator upon mutual agreement
10. Privacy & Data Protection
- Personal data is encrypted and securely stored
- Used only for operations and claim handling
- Never shared or sold to third parties
11. Shariah Compliance
- Based on principles of mutual aid (ta’awun)
- Funds are not invested in interest or non-permissible industries
- Future oversight by a Shariah Advisory Board
12. Policy Updates
- Policies reviewed annually
- Changes notified via email and website 30 days prior to effect
